Merkel urged Putin to resume ceasefire in Aleppo

Germany demands immediate cease-fire in the city, as well as unhindered access of humanitarian organizations

German Chancellor Angela Merkel called on Russian President Vladimir Putin for the resumption of ceasefire in Aleppo. It as reported by Deutsche Welle.

The head of the German government held a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin. During the conversation, she noted the need to restore the truce and unhindered access of humanitarian organizations in Aleppo. According to her, assistance to residents of the besieged city is a priority.

As the official representative of the government of the Federal Republic of Germany Steffen Seibert said, Merkel called for immediate ceasefire in the eastern area of Aleppo.

"Never too late to stop the senseless bloodshed," Seibert said.

According to the report, Germany is pushing for a ceasefire in Syria and for the resumption of domestic Syrian talks. Germany calls on Russia and Iran to use its influence on the Syrian government and President Bashar al-Assad and to persuade them to resume negotiations because they will hardly go on this step on their own.
