Summer Olympics will start soon - on August 5th in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Ukraine sends the best of the best to this competition - the athletes who have achieved a lot in their chosen kind of sport and should be able to compete with others and claim the gold medals. At the same time Gracenote company, formerly known as Infostrada, tried to predict the medal standings at the Olympics and noted the best Olympians. The national team of Ukraine, according to the company, will take 16th place in the overall standings, having won 6 gold, 4 silver and 13 bronze medals. Gold medals will take Olga Kharlan, men's fencing team, Oleg Verniaiev, Olena Kostevych, Yuliya Tkach and Jean Belenyuk. Olga Kharlan (Sabre)
Beijing Olympic champion and bronze medalist of London goes to Brazil for another medal. Harlan has long been considered one of the strongest fencers in the world, she is twice World champion (two wins at the World Cup in Belgium and China,2013 and 2014) and five-times European champion. Also she was Olympic team champion in the 2008 Summer Olympics, twice World team champion (2009 and 2013) and twice European team champion. Men's fencing team
Consists of Anatoliy Gerey, Maxym Khvorost, Dmitriy Karyuchenko and Bogdan Nikishin. Ukrainian fencers are considered the main favorites for an Olympic medal. This year, they won the World Cup in Paris, where four Ukrainian in persistent struggle won the title which formerly belonged to the hosts of the competition - the French. And alsothis team won in the category "Team of the Year" in 10th ceremony of "Heroes of the sports year 2015" in Ukraine.
Oleg Verniaiev (Gymnastics)
This athlete has already well proved itself not only on Ukrainian, but on the world arena too. The 2014 World Champion and 2014 European Champion on the parallel bars. He is a persistent athlete - despite suffering from a leg injury he won the gold medal in the all-around competition at the 2015 European Championships in Montpellier, France. He was named the 2014 Ukrainian Sportsperson of the Year and holds the title of Honored Master of Sport in Ukraine.
Olena Kostevych (Bullet shooting)
2004 Olympic Champion and 2012 Olympic Bronze medalist Olena Kostevych is considered an athlete who has high chances for winning the upcoming Olympics. Her fans have even more confidence in her victory because of the fact that this year Olena had no equal competitors at became the star of the European Championship.
Yuliya Tkach (Freestyle wrestling)
Having one gold won in World Championship and two – in European Championships in the freestyle 63 kg category, Yuliya will travel to Brazil as the main Ukrainian favorite. Despite the fact that for 26-years-old athlete it will be the Olympic debut, we consider that her youth and a great desire to get a medal will help her to achieve this goal.
Jean Belenyuk (Greco-Roman wrestling)
The representative of Ukrainian olympic team is a two-time European champion in Greco-Roman wrestling85 kg category and owner of the World Cup in this kind of sports. And now he is travelling to Rio solely for the gold medal, which is yet missing in his awards collection.
Andriy Govorov (Swimming)
In the championship of the Old World in London, he confidently took the gold in the discipline of 50 meters butterfly. In addition, the Ukrainian set the competition record at the stage of Mare Nostrum tournament (Barcelona), where he won two gold medals. Analysts from Infostrada Sports believe that Andriy Govorov is able to win Olympic medal for Ukraine.
Bogdan Bondarenko (High jump)
This Ukrainian is one of the tallest among high jumpers – his height is 1.97m. During his performances he set a European record, jumping at 2.42 meters in 2014. At the last world championships, Bogdan, however, was unable to win the gold. He lacked only 1 cm as compared to the jump of his competitor. However, Bogdan is still regarded as the number one athlete in the high jump and seriously claims to be the Olympic champion.
Anna Rizatdinova (Rhythmic gymnastics)
2013 World All-around silver medalist, the 2014 World All-around bronze medalist and two-time (2014, 2016) European All-around bronze medalist. In general, only in 2016 year Anna in various competitions won more than 20 medals, among which the most are gold. And in all categories – ball, hoop, clubs, ribbon and all-around this titled athlete may glorify Ukraine.
Darya Zevina (Swimming)
Among women swimmers this 21-years-ols athlete is the main Olympic hope. She is the world champion and winner of six gold medals at the European Championships short water. In May this year, the first time Darya won a silver medal in the official competitions of adults in the large pool. At the Olympics in London in 2012 Zevina finished outside the top ten, but now, of course, became the leader of our swimming team and is ready to fight for the medals.
