Protest against President Poroshenko’s confectionery business Roshen was announced on October 27. The announcement was made on the Facebook page of Rukh vzvolennya, the main organizer of the protest action that began on October 17 near the Verkhovna Rada. Few warning pickets of the packhouse of the corporation in Vinnytsia and the logistics center in Yahotyn took place. On Sunday evening, a rally was also held in the Kyiv store Roshen on Khreshchatyk. About thirty activists, including the People's Deputy from Samopomich Yehor Sobolev, distributed leaflets to people, urging them not to buy Poroshenko’s candies.
Donbas volunteer, spokesperson for Rukh vyzvolennya Vadym Khytrych stated: “We made this decision about blockade of the president's business, because in such a way we would like to remind Poroshenko about his pre-election promise. Our current president promised to sell his business - it was before the elections... Therefore, we decided to block the official businesses of the president, the most famous of which is notorious Roshen confectionery firm.” “Blockade of this most vivid and recognizable business of the president will continue,” he added.
Khytrych noted that picket outside Roshen packhouse in Vinnytsia began on October 27 at about 7:00 pm.
"There was a warning action near the Roshen packhouse. We were on our way to the tent camp near Verkhovna Rada. And decided to conduct a spontaneous rally… There were 9 of us. Five minutes after we started the action, three locals joined us. We stood for two hours," said Khytrych.
He also said that when the activists drove up to the packhouse, the gates were open, but the barrier was lowered. "When they saw us, they closed the gate, but none of the representatives came to us. 30 minutes after the action began, a lorry arrived at the gate of Roshen packhouse, and it was also not allowed into the gate, although we did not impede its movement. The driver was very surprised, he said, it did not happen before. He left the car parked near the packhouse and went home," Khytrych said.
In the fourth year of the presidency, Poroshenko was included in the list of dollar billionaires. Poroshenko's assets grew by 7% over the year, and Ukraine's GDP – by 2%.
