On November 29 in the capital of Belarus was held a meeting of Normandy Four foreign ministers - Ukraine, Germany, France and Russia. Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin, his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Foreign Minister of France Jean-Marc Ayrault and Minister of Russia Sergei Lavrov discussed the roadmap regarding Donbas situation settlement.
The talks ended without a breakthrough, this was recognized by the Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov.
Pavlo Klimkin said after the talks that "the discussion was very difficult, tough, and occasionally emotional."
Regarding the road map on settlement of the situation in Donbas, Pavlo Klimkin accused Russia that it "does not want to take steps to give control of the occupied Donbas to international community, the OSCE, doesn’t take steps in the sphere of security and resolving humanitarian problems."
"Since the Russian side does not agree on the key priorities, we have a fundamental difference in the vision of the roadmap. What the Russian side wants - is, in fact, to legitimize its protectorate or colony in Donbas ", - said Klimkin.
Ready for any option to release our heroes - Klimkin
The delegation of Ukraine together with European partners insisted on access to the Ukrainian captives, said the head of the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine.
“Unfortunately, we can’t talk about some promising results now. But if we can at least soon achieve humanitarian access for the Red Cross, international humanitarian organizations, if we can at least somehow make effective discussions on the exchange… and we said that we are ready for any option to release our soldiers, our heroes in the occupied Donbas "- said Pavlo Klimkin.
He also said that during last month Ukrainian soldiers were attacked by Russians and local militants and hit by 132 tons of shells that crossed the uncontrolled part of the border with Russia.
Russian Minister Sergei Lavrov rejected all this. He, among other things, said that conversations about armed police mission in Donbas was not and could not be the relevant issue, and for the resolution of this conflict we should attract representatives from occupied Luhansk and Donetsk.
EU sanctions against Russia should be preserved – Ayrault
Since there was no general briefing of Foreign Affairs Ministers, it is clear that there was no common ground and consensus between them. The only thing they agreed - is to continue the dialogue, including in the framework of the Trilateral contact group in Minsk.
It is important also that the Foreign Minister of France, Jean-Marc Ayrault before the meeting called for the preservation of European Union sanctions against Russia, saying that the lifting of sanctions would be counterproductive step that would weaken efforts to resolve the crisis in Ukraine and Moscow will win.
