Once a year, a small town in Ukraine becomes a scene of celebration for thousands of Hasidic Jews who come here from all over the world to meet Rosh Hashanah - New Year. This year, police counted 31 thousand visitors.

The celebration in Uman includes dancing, singing, concerts, and fun. Of course, not all local residents are delighted with this vivid fun, because infrastructure of Uman is not ready to receive so many visitors. But this fact does not interfere the Jewish holiday.

 The holiday, which is called the "Jewish New Year," is one of the most important Jewish holidays and is associated with many symbolic rituals. Rosh Hashanah means "head of the year" in Hebrew, and it begins on the first day of the month Tishri (in 2016 - the evening of October 2).

 

Hasidim pilgrims flock to Ukraine on Rosh Hashanah to visit the grave of Hasidic spiritual leader Rabbi Nachman.

The Jews, who represent the flow of Hasidism, consider it their duty to visit at least once in their lives at the grave of Rabbi Nachman. They also believe that if they meet the New Year - Rosh Hashanah - near his grave, the next year will be very happy for them.
