June 13, president Zelensky’s Servant of the People party has published the second half of the party list, presented a few days earlier. The list has lengthened by another hundred names and now contains 201 positions.
Experts already say that such a style of holding congresses (with the delay of a part of the list) contradicts the current legislation. After all, a congress is not an entertainment open-air event with music, but something that legitimizes candidates for MPs.
To be fair and unbiased, Yulia Tymoshenko’s Batkivshchyna party has presented only the top five of its candidates, while the rest of the names were made public later. However, this collision would be decided by the CEC, and we will focus on the lists of the presidential party.
Even before the publication of the full version of the list, some persons began to voluntarily or forcibly leave the game.
However, President Zelensky himself called on journalists and public figures to take a closer look at the party list in order to identify not very worthy people in it.
One of the media outlets drew attention to 25-year-old Iryna Panchenko, lionne and a party girl, well known in the capital; her “services to the people” were, to put it mildly, incomprehensible. So her name disappeared from the party lists.
In addition to Panchenko, TV host of the NewsOne channel, Dmytro Spivak, broke away from the Ze team. Pro-Russian Spivak noted that someone has launched a campaign to discredit against him and his family. But he is not going to change his position. Finally, Spivak does not want to bear “reputational risks” for President Zelensky.
Vadym Gutsayt, director of the department of youth and sports of Kyiv City Administration, swordsman, had a completely different motivation. He thanked President Zelensky, but noted that politics is not his business. “I do not know how to shout loudly from the rostrum, I can work,” Gutsayt wrote on Facebook.
Meanwhile, ex-deputy minister of defense, Yuriy Gusev, complained about psychological pressure against him: “I decided not to continue to participate in the parliamentary elections.”
Presenter of the 1 + 1 channel Serhiy Ivanov, who was supposed to run in a single-mandate constituency, refused as well: “Yes, I received an offer to run for majoritarian elections. I am very grateful for the trust, for the offer, I understand that the chance to win is very high, but I have to refuse,” he wrote on the social media. Ivanov called the categorical disagreement of the family, the desire to further develop in journalism the reasons for the refusal.
Replacement on the playing field
Gymnast Anna Rizatdinova was supposed to run in 93 districts of Kyiv region. Moreover, her struggle for the electoral field promised to turn into a family drama. After all, MP of the previous convocations, Oleksandr Onishchenko, who previously ran in this very district and fled abroad in 2016, and published compromising materials about Petro Poroshenko, seems to be interested in running again.
Rizatdinova and Onishchenko have a common child, which means that Servant of the People decided not to intervene in the confrontation, but to nominate another candidate for 93 district – Anna Skorokhod. Strana.ua outlet notes that Skorokhod is a technical candidate from oligarch Yuriy Kosyuk, a well-known agro-baron, close to Petro Poroshenko. Whereas the real candidate in this district is Oleksandr Zhukotansky, director of Myronivsky Hliboproduct. This enterprise, as is known, is part of the Kosyuk empire.
A famous restaurateur Mykola Tyshchenko will run in the 218th single-mandate district of the Svyatoshynsky district (Kyiv).
The single-mandate candidate
It should be recalled that the single-member constituencies of the "Servants of the People" are not filled. The race participants have time until June 20.
However, the candidates for some of the districts of the Servant of the People are already known. Speaking about 25th district in Dnipro city, blogger Maksym Buzhansky would be running there – an opponent of Maidan, a lover of Stalin and the Soviet Union.
Yuriy Koryavchenko, who is running in the 31st district of Kryvyi Rih. Koryavchenkov, who is a part of Kvartal 95 studio team, undermines Zelensky’s promises to avoid protectionism and nepotism. Actually, protectionism is used to promote another two candidates, connected with the 1 + 1 TV channel, that is - read - with oligarch Ihor Kolomoysky. For example, journalist Oleksandr Dubinsky will compete in the 94th district of the Kyiv region, and his colleague Olha Vasylevska, district No. 96 (although her balloting is still under question).
It is symbolic that Poroshenko’s Oleksandr Dubinsky’s irreconcilable criticism on the majority program will be confronted by the first deputy faction of the Bloc of Petro Poroshenko faction Ihor Kononenko.
While artist and entrepreneur Ihor Kochut will try to conquer the 68th district (Uzhgorod), deputy of the Kherson regional council from Blok Poroshenko Albert Cherepakha - district No. 185 (Kherson region), and rector of Eastern European University Lyubov Shpak (194th district in Cherkasy region).
The names of two more majoritarian candidates who will run in Kyiv are also voiced. This is doctor of the Borys clinic Maksym Perebeinis (212 district) and urbanist Dmytro Gurin (possibly, 218th district). The party decided to approve the rest of the candidates behind closed doors.
"New" faces from old partners
Regarding the multi-member district, we recall that the top ten of the list includes Zelensky's PR manager, and head of his party, Dmytro Razumkov.
The second number is Ruslan Stefanchuk, a presidential representative at parliament, lawyer Iryna Venediktova, David Arakhamiya, a volunteer, expert on anti-corruption policy Halyna Yanchenko, digital technology specialist Mykhailo Fedorov, head of the party’s electoral headquarters Oleksandr Kornienko, lawyer Anastasia Krasnoselska, 1 + 1TV channel CEO Oleksandr Tkachenko, and wrestler Zhan Belenyuk.
Colleagues in show business are represented by Ihor Kryvosheev, former KVN (Club of the Funny and Inventive) specialist and the “delegate" of the Ze team in Zakarpattia. In this context, it is worth remembering co-founder of the Kvartal Concert company, Maksym Tkachenko (No. 25), and Valeriy Sterniychuk, a participant of Zelensky’s Liga Smikhu project (No. 47).
The list includes people associating Zelensky with Kolomoisky, as well as those who relate to MIA head Arsen Avakov. The “Kolomoysky Group” includes the already mentioned Tkachenko, and Andriy Gerus, a former member of the National Commission for State Regulation of Energy and Utilities and, as some experts say, a lobbyist of the oligarch’s energy interests. Artem Kovalev, director of the UNIAN agency (part of Igor Kolomoisky’s media group) can be added to them.
Avakov’s hand could be traced trough Serhiy Babak (No. 11) and Denys Monastyrsky (No. 19). Both are related to the Ukrainian Institute for the Future, whose co-founder is Anton Herashchenko, who is close to Avakov. And Halyna Yanchenko (from the top ten of the list) is the wife of UIB Director Viktor Andrusiv.
And this suggests that it will not be easy for Zelensky to respond to the petition on the resignation of Avakov. At stake is Zelensky’s ability to take control of the power block, experts say. As you can see, the list of Servants of the People party has some pitfalls.
Money and insurance
Therefore, obviously, that is why a lot of lawyers are part of Zelensky’s team. This is, first of all, a lawyer Serhiy Ionushas, a director of the Gelon company, which advised Kvartal 95 team (No. 39). And also - two lawyers of Hillmont Partners, which, in turn, represented the interests of Zelensky in the CEC. It is about Serhiy Kalchenko (№24) and Vadym Halaychuk (№45). The list also includes the doctor of legal sciences, associate professor of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, Halyna Mykhailyuk (No. 48), and Fedir Venyslavsky, the representative of President Zelensky at the Constitutional Court (No. 93).
Considering Zelensky’s Napoleonic plans to amend the Constitution, hold referendums, etc., legal support for his team is not at all superfluous. But do not forget about business interests. The list is represented by Oleksandr Kubrakov, head of the City for People housing fund company.
Oleksandr Zavitkevych runs the foundry in Cherkasy region, and Yuriy Aristov, the head of the Golden Fish company and the owner of the Okeanopolis company.
Another stratum of candidates involved in the elections under the auspices of the Zelensky party is those connected with the team of ex-president Poroshenko. For example, Geo Leros, Advisor to the Minister of Information Policy (No. 23). And also Lyudmyla Marchenko, an employee of the State Legal Department of the Presidential Administration (No. 64), Natalia Bogdanova, a representative of the Ministry of Social Policy (No. 67), Andriy Molovilovets, Advisor to the Minister of Infrastructure Omelyan (No. 98).
President Zelensky explained that the hundreds of candidates selected by him consist of three layers: teams that had a “long way in campaigns”, regional activists and individuals selected through online projects.
