A 19th-century tsarist-era building located in central Kyiv's iconic Khreshchaty Street was gutted by the sudden outbreak of a fire that swept through the abandoned building's internal core.

The cause of the fire remains unknown and local residents, as well as business owners, remain dismayed over the loss of another piece of the Ukrainian capital's architectural heritage.

In recent years, Kyivans have bemoaned the poor state of most of the city's pre-Revolutionary architecture and have grown increasingly concerned over the mysterious regularity of the fires, the overwhelming majority of which occur on valuable land plots and highly sought-out locales.
