Lviv is suffering from the trash blockade. Every day the city produces about 600 tons of waste, but there is no place to export them. More than a third of the urns are overcrowded. After the fire at trash dump near Grybovychi village (near Lviv) in last year, the city was forced to take out the garbage to other landfills, which eventually refused to accept the waste.
This is a very strange situation, which is closely intertwined with politics. The court banned the use of trash dump near Grybovychi village, and a number of other landfills were closed earlier. The mayor's office appealed to the authorities of other cities, however, Lviv’s mayor, Andriy Sadovy, assures that all the landfills to which the waste was exported are closed. Now Lviv trash travels all over Ukraine often without any documents. Activists report the discovery of unauthorized landfills. At the same time, the central authorities did not help anything except criticism. The chairman of the local regional administration promises to make Lviv clear again in a week.
Meanwhile, the center of Galicia is buried in waste. At present, according to the Department of Housing and Communal Services, 34% of all container sites are critically filled, while district administrations report that this figure has reached 64%. According to the information of the press service of the Lviv city council, the most crowded containers are in Shevchenkivskyi district - 107, in Halytsky - 32. Of course, the city center is attractive for tourists, which requires timely removal of garbage. Worse situation is in sleeping areas. In addition to the unpleasant smell, overcrowded urns attract rats. The situation becomes threatening. The Office of the Civil Service warns the mayor about a possible complication of the sanitary and epidemiological situation, which may entail the termination of the educational process and the danger of an outbreak of various infections.
March 21, 112.ua raided the streets of Lviv in order to see what the situation with the export of waste is.

Why is it threatening?
With the warming, an emergency and infectious diseases in the city are possible. Because of warming, the pathogens of intestinal infections, dysentery, viral hepatitis A, tuberculosis, leptospirosis will multiply. To reduce risks, the State Service recommends disinfection of all sites.
Volodymyr Zub, head of the health department of the Lviv city council, also spoke about the danger. If the temperature rises above 8 degrees, there is a risk of spreading intestinal infections. The rise of the temperature increases the risks.
The hydrometeorological center predicts an increase in air temperature to 12-14 degrees Celsius in the coming days.
Closure of kindergartens and schools can also become a reality.
For unprocessed garbage from the sites located on the territory of educational institutions, school visiting might be temporarily stopped. For more than a month, garbage was not taken out from the territory of 59 institutions (29 schools and 30 kindergartens). With warming, this situation poses a threat to the health of the children and workers.
Director of the Department of Housing and Communal Services of the Lviv City Council Serhiy Babak on March 20 denied the information posted on the website of Lviv regional administration about the offer of a new site and informed that the Lviv regional administration did not offer new territories to the city for the waste-processing plant.
City mayor Andriy Sadovyi said that the polygon in Donetsk region, which hosted solid waste from Lviv, refused to cooperate because of pressure from state structures.
Therefore, the problem would not be solved in the near future, and garbage will only accumulate.
