President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko will run for a second term in office. On the night of 7 to 8 September, the head of state announced this to the deputies and the ministers representing the faction named Petro Poroshenko’s bloc, as well as to the Prosecutor General Yuri Lutsenko and the mayor of the capital Vitali Klitschko during a meeting with the faction in Zalissya residence. 112.ua found out the details of the president’s teambuilding.
On Thursday evening a string of executive class cars stretched in the direction of Zalissya residence. Among them, journalists noticed a black Audi, which belongs to the first deputy chairman of the Petro Poroshenko’s Bloc, Igor Kononenko.
The very event, according to the official version, was of informal character.
"There were no separate groups, everyone was sitting at the same table and talking informally. Politics was not discussed, "the People's Deputy Valery Karpuntsov said. In turn, his colleague Pavlo Rizanenko complained that earlier such events had not been conducted, adding that he did not understand the reason for the excitement around the meeting of the faction.
Poroshenko promises victory in elections
However, 112.ua sources, present at the event, note that although the meeting was informal, political issues were actively discussed on it.
"In front of the deputies, ministers and mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitschko and Prosecutor General Yuri Lutsenko, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that he will go for a second term and told that he expects to win at the forthcoming elections in March 2019”, noted the interlocutors, adding that the speech of the first person of the country lasted about 10 minutes.
So, according to one of the influential deputies, in his speech, Poroshenko among other things said that the campaign will be based on getting visa-free regime with the EU, as well as on the expected economic growth in the next two years.
"Poroshenko expressed the conviction that visa-free travel and rapprochement with the European Union can at least partially compensate for the negative situation in the country, and added that he expects economic growth in the next two years, with which, among other things, he plans to take two or three steps to improve situation, including with a personal rating, "the interlocutor notes.
The head of state raised the issue of the conflict in Donbas. According to the deputies who attended the meeting, Poroshenko assured that this issue would be completed before the presidential elections.
"Poroshenko said that before the presidential elections the war would end and Ukraine would regain control over the uncontrolled part of the region. Overall, he expressed confidence in the victory in the elections and called on those present to take their part in it, " our interlocutors stressed.
The participants of the meeting did not ignore forthcoming parliamentary elections in 2019. As noted the deputies attended the event in Zalissya, during the meeting consultations on the places of deputies in majority districts continued.
"It was a preliminary estimate of the districts. Not all the deputies agree to go to the majority district, as they were informed that they will have to invest personal funds," the interlocutors explain.
According to sources, it is planned that the majority of the party of the head of state, who will agree to participate in election in the districts, will receive part of the money from the state budget.
"Now the discussion regarding the specific amounts continues," the interlocutors added.
Economic issues were also not ignored in Zalissya. According to the deputies attending the event, Finance Minister Olexander Danilyuk said that the government insists on adopting the draft budget 2018 in its first reading. He added that only part of the wishes of the deputies was taken into account.
At the same time, they recognize that for the second reading, the "petitioners" will again try to lobby the necessary amendments and "it is likely that the budget will be slightly amended”. It will all depend on the number of votes of people's deputies necessary for the approval. In any case, it will be adopted by the end of the year, as the IMF wants it, and we are looking for a tranche.
At the same time, the meeting left unanswered the question of a possible future union of the Narodnyi Front and the Bloc of Petro Poroshenko parties. According to 112.ua sources in the Bloc, the issue is currently being discussed at the level of the "strategic nine", but the format remains vague. Personnel issues are also discussed. But this is already a matter of a new political season, which started this week.
