Another resonant murder occurred in Kyiv. In broad daylight, the chef of the Odesa restaurant Cooper Burgers Ruslan Yurchenko was stabbed at a public transport stop. He was killed by a serviceman of the 72nd separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who recently returned from the area of the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) in Donbas.
It occurred on Saturday, February 10, at a public transport stop in Desniansky district of Kyiv.
"At 12:38, the duty officer of the Kyiv Police received a message from the doctors about a stabbed man at the bus stop near the Chernihivska metro station,” the police said today.
According to the testimony of the eyewitnesses, the murder was due to a heated verbal exchange in the bus queue line. "The young man tried to enter public transport without waiting in line, the older passenger reprimanded him. The young man reacted aggressively and a verbal conflict arose between men. After that, the young participant of this quarrel moved to the metro station... He bought a table knife, took it from the sleeve of his jacket and stabbed his opponent," the police said.
The wounded fell on the snow in front of the bus, and the attacker quickly walked towards the bus station and disappeared. The wounded man was Kyivan, a 35-year-old chef of the famous Odesa restaurant Cooper Burgers Ruslan Yurchenko.
The man considered himself a "food fan" and was a cook with 10 years’ experience. "As long as I can remember I have always liked cooking. A long time ago, when I lived in the village with my grandmother, we were baking potatoes with lard at the fire. Everyone wanted to quickly take it out of the fire because it was delicious. Then I have attended some culinary schools, I have been a professional chef for the last 10 years, but in fact, I became a cook at the very moment when the guys slapped my first potatoes on the coals," he recalled on his Facebook page.
According to doctors, Yurchenko died of a stab wound to the heart before their arrival. It happened in front of his wife, who was also at a stop at that moment. As eyewitnesses note, the wife was entering the bus, while her husband was stabbed in the back. He had a 5-year-old son and a 10-year-old daughter.
Now friends of the deceased are thinking how to help Yurchenko’s family because Ruslan was the only breadwinner.
The description of the attacker was handed over to all patrol and operational services, so the killer was found in a while. "A couple of blocks from the crime scene, on Chervonotkatska street the patrol police detained a man, similar to the attacker," the police said.
It was a 27-year-old serviceman. The police immediately seized young man’s murder weapon and bloody clothes. Later, he confessed to committing a grave crime.
As chief military prosecutor Anatoly Matios noted, the suspect is “junior Lieutenant B. (born in 1990, a contractual military unit with a permanent deployment Bila Tserkva).” That is, he served in the 72nd separate mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. "Most recently, an officer with his team has returned from ATO," the military prosecutor stressed.
In his view, what happened is "the consequence of a war to which the state is blind."
Friends of Yurchenko’s family argue that the attacker was in a state of drug intoxication. However, the police have not yet commented on this information.
"The information on the event was included in the Single Register of Pre-trial Investigations under Article 115 ("premeditated murder") of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The investigators appoint forensic examinations and other investigative actions to investigate the offense. The offender was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of Ukraine. The court granted an application for the arrest of a man," report to the police.
In the case of proof of guilt, a serviceman faces up to 15 years of imprisonment.
The public is shocked by what happened; people are convinced that not only the detained military man but also his commanders are guilty. "This is the responsibility of the Armed Forces and specific officers that a man with combat training does not realize where he is and what he is doing," the social media users write.
