For several years in a row, Ukraine has been among top-three cheapest countries in the world: foreign tourists advised our state as the country with the most acceptable prices for renting an apartment, utilities, public transport, and food.
By the way, only in Pakistan or Egypt, the life of a traveler was considered cheaper than in Ukraine, while the most expensive prices were in Bermuda, Switzerland, and Iceland.
But the impression of foreign tourists about our country might drastically change, and they would not advise their fellow citizens to visit Ukraine.
What is the reason for this? This is not connected with the increase in the cost of public or regular jump in tariffs for utilities, which are extremely painfully perceived by the Ukrainians. The main threat is connected with the upcoming final UEFA Champions League 2017/18 match, which this year would be held on May 26 at the NSC Olimpiyskiy in Kyiv.
More than 50,000 fans from around the world are planning to flock to Ukraine. They will be the main measure of Ukrainian hospitality and accessibility in 2018.
But, as it turned out in recent days, foreigners in Kyiv are rather treated as an opportunity to quickly and easily earn some money. The proof of this unpleasant statement may be that the day of the final match of the Champions League, the cost of daily rent of housing in the capital has increased tens of times.
So, at the time of writing this material, for example, the cheapest offers of the most popular among foreign tourists site Booking.com, renting an apartment for one night (26 to 27 May) cost 1120-1400 USD (on the other days, you might pay only 15 USD per day).
Among the most expensive at the same time - numbers from 7 thousand USD to 11 thousand USD, the usual price of which is 25 and 40 USD respectively.
And this is even more than the cost of the tickets for the Champions League final!
It might seem that the suburban hotels are cheaper, but no.
The prices for rent of apartments are similar.
Moreover, you need to hurry, because 91% of the offers are not available.
At the same time, the overestimated prices for the daily housing rent have affected not only the international tourist portals but even those that foreign tourists have no access to them. For example, OLX.
The reaction of the football fans did not take long. Ukrainians only mocked of the greed of the witty owners of hotels and apartments, foreign football fans said they would complain to the Union of European Football Associations. A spokesman for London’s Liverpool FC supporters club told Daily Star Online the prices are a “rip-off” and suggested UEFA should intervene, Daily Star reported. A spokesman told Daily Star Online: “If anyone pays that price they need their heads examining, the majority of our members are working class, not millionaires so I doubt they will be booking or even looking at expensive rooms. “Half of them will probably fly out and back on the same day like they did in Istanbul and won’t book a room.”
Ukrainian Minister of Youth and Sports, Ihor Zhdanov, has noted that the organization does not oppose the non-admission to the current Champions League final of fans who, contrary to Ukrainian laws, have visited occupied Crimea.
This gives grounds to believe that the Union of European Football Associations will not interfere with the issue of rental prices in the Ukrainian capital.
Daily Star later noted that Kyiv is a major business center, as well as a tourist city, it has a variety of different proposals of renting an apartment.
Realtors of Ukraine completely agree with the fact that such a huge universal increase in the daily rent in Kyiv is unacceptable. "It is not true! There is a small influx of football fans, but it is not that big to really influence the price." The owners also raised prices during Euro-2012, but no one can afford such prices. Yes, the prices might rise by some 10-20 %," said" general director of VALION real estate company real estate group Artur Pylypchuk in an interview with Segodnia.
In turn, the president of the Union of Realtors of Ukraine Viktor Nesin added a commentary for 24tv that this year the minimum cost of rent is 13 USD per day. Accordingly, in his opinion, this price will increase by the time of the final of the Champions League roughly 4 times.
You can also check the variety of accommodation offers by going directly to the sites of Kyiv hotels and portals of real estate targeted at the local population.
Moreover, one of these days an official statement from the Ukrainian Railways Ukrzaliznytsia appeared. The department claims that they are ready to provide accommodation at Kyiv Central Station at a price of 10-30 USD per day.
In other words, in order to find affordable support for foreign fans in Kyiv, you need either to use an interpreter or help from friends in Ukraine.
Not-indifferent Kyiv citizens have created a Facebook initiative to settle the city's guests. It is called Free Kyiv Couch. Its participants offer to place foreign fans at their own houses for free.
Organizational committee for the preparation and holding of the Champions League final 2018 in Kyiv has noted that this is not the only initiative against the high accommodation prices.
According to the committee press secretary Anton Tarasenko, the organization has already applied to the State Fiscal Service with a request to check the hotels that offer super-high prices for housing during the Champions League final in Kyiv.
In addition, there is an idea of accommodation on Trukhaniv Island camping complex.
