It’ll be the first visit of a US Defense Secretary to Ukraine in 10 years

On August 24, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko will hold a meeting with US Defense Secretary James Mattis, who is coming to Kyiv to participate in the events dedicated to the Independence Day of Ukraine, as the official website of the President of Ukraine informs.

“The first visit of the US Defense Secretary to Ukraine in the last ten years is to be held, based on the previous agreements with the American side, reached during the Head of State’s visit to the USA this June,” the message informs.

As it was reported earlier, US Defense Secretary is to visit Ukraine on Independence Day. The Secretary is to assure the Ukrainian side that the U.S. remains firmly committed to the goal of restoring Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. For these events he is to be joined by the US Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker.
