Ukrainian grandmaster Vassily Ivanchuk won the world championship in rapid chess.

Before the final 15th round, five participants scored 10 points, but Ivanchuk led on additional indicators.

The Ukrainian won the final game against Hrant Melkumyan from Armenia and secured himself a victory in the tournament.

The Russian Alexander Grischuk was the second, the third - Norwegian Magnus Carlsen.

Magnus Carlsen is the current world chess champion. Ivanchuk has created one of the major sensations of the tournament beating Carlsen.

All winners scored 11 points, but Ivanchuk won by additional indicators.

It should be noted that the world champion among women has now become a Ukrainian Anna Muzychuk.

Muzichuk and Ivanchuk are both residents of the Lviv city.
