"Onyshchenko is a member of the parliamentary group “People's Will”, the Secretary of which I am. We had the usual standard communication of colleagues from Parliament, even though, as we know, he rarely visited the plenary meetings. This conversation started during the course of events with voting for removal of immunity from Alexander Onyshchenko. We decided to call him during the meeting of our parliamentary group in order to learn his position on this. Onyshchenko asked not to vote, because he considered the charges baseless. His request was heard by everybody, we talked with him on the speaker to adopt a common decision. At that point in time each member of the group was important in order to save it,” he said.
He informed that he had his first meeting with Onyshchenko in Italy.
"I was with my family on a tour in Genoa, he got in touch and asked for a meeting ... He talked a lot of different things, but I remember exactly what struck my nerve, the fact that his mother was accused for his deeds. And 73-year-old woman could be the one to go and suffer in prison. He asked for help and advice, asked how much support he can count on from the group. I have taken time to think, whether I should do it and how can I help,” Dovgiy said.
According to him, the second meeting took place in London.
"I returned to Ukraine and consulted with lawyers. They gave a legal assessment of the situation and their recommendations. Onyshchenko called and asked several times: “Well, what?”, “Well, when?” When the legal position was formed, I flew to London to explain the proposal of the lawyers. They recommended Onyshchenko’s mother to refer to her age, and begin to cooperate with the investigation this way... In general, all that I said, may be reduced to a simple thesis "return money to the budget and sleep well,” Dovgiy said.
Dovgiy said that during these meetings that he presented the deputy group "People’s Will", as he also mentioned it to Onyshchenko during their conversations.
At the same time, the MP did not confirm the authenticity of the recordings of the alleged negotiations with Onyshchenko made public in the media.
"I did not listen to the recording, and I do not intend to, as I remember the conversation well, its background and circumstances,” he said.
Earlier, a scandalous article was also published by The Independent regarding Onyshchenko claims about Ukrainian authorities.
