Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin said that the delay in granting Ukraine visa-free regime is a bureaucratic process within the EU. The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs claimed during a dialogue with journalists, which was broadcast by "112 Ukraine" TV channel.
"We try to play or give specific dates. In fact, the situation today is as follows. Firstly, all political obstacles in the way of this solution are eliminated, the European Commission and the European Council at the level of permanent representatives as well as the European Parliament clearly told that all the necessary conditions are fulfilled. EU Member states have actually put forward the condition that the mechanism to respond to migration risks should be agreed upon in the first place. This is due to the last migration wave, as well as the fact that many citizens of the EU Member states are connecting the recent terrorist incidents with this wave of migration," Klimkin said.
"A few days ago the decision regarding this mechanism was taken. This discussion has been very, very difficult. The fact that this solution was reached is very good for the promotion of visa-free regime for Ukraine and Georgia. Now the question is how quickly the EU is able to build the whole negotiation process," he added.
According to the minister, it is currently unacceptable to speculate with the dates for visa-free regime today.
"I can not say how the European Council and the European Parliament will build this process in time, but we're trying to push so that this process would take less time. I assume that it is a matter of months as of today, but we can not speculate with dates today, because the process is highly bureaucratic in the EU," he said.
