Avdiivka

Although the humanitarian situation in Avdiivka somewhat improved by Monday, February 6, , all the schools resumed their work, the water supply was restored, the situation in Avdiivka was getting back to normal

Presidents Donald Trump and Petro Poroshenko have held a telephone conversation. The team of Ukrainian guarantor noted that this conversation had a slight tone of "victory." Well, the very fact that the telephone conversation between the officials, which, incidentally, took place in a not very convenient for Ukraine’s president time (in Kyiv it was almost midnight Saturday), when Trump called Poroshenko’s administration, could be really considered a victory.

Still Avdiivka was one of the hottest spots in the entire combat area in Donbas by Tuesday. The Russia-backed militants shelled the town in Donetsk region, using tanks and mortars. NATO-Ukraine Commission will hold an extraordinary meeting at the ambassadorial level on the situation in Donbas on February 8.  And the European Parliament is set to consider tensions in Avdiivka next week.

The Russian Defense Ministry has brought a lot of armored vehicles, hardware and manpower to the occupied areas of Donbas; that could mean the enemy prepares for another escalation in the combat zone, according to Oleksandr Turchynov, the Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council.

Meanwhile Lithuania has provided 40 thousand euros to the Red Cross for the purchase of medicines for the residents of Avdiivka. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkyavichus stated this at a briefing in Kramatorsk.

We attempted to gather all the information since the beginning of escalation in Avdiivka.

Diplomatic scandal with the German Ambassador

A diplomatic scandal rose out of the words of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Ukraine Ernst Reichel, when in his interview to RBK Ukraine he said that “holding elections in the occupied territory of the Donbas region is possible even without withdrawal of the Russian military units from there”. The German Ambassador's statements were treated as "treason" by many Ukrainian officials  and the odious People's Deputy even painted a Berlin Wall segment to protest against German Ambassador while other activists washed it out later. The German Embassy in Kyiv abstained from reaction to the prank by Ukrainian MP who painted the Berlin Wall.

The same day German Embassy in Kyiv hold a reception in the honor of the 25th anniversary of German-Ukrainian diplomatic relations, inviting Markus Meckel, the penultimate foreign minister of the GDR and a member of the German Bundestag, among other diplomats, Ambassadors and Ukrainian MPs.

The official position of the German Foreign Ministry insisted his words do not contradict with Minsk agreement.
