The General Staff has completed the preparation of the state development program of the Armed Forces of Ukraine until 2020 and submitted it to the Cabinet of Ministers. This was announced by the Chief of General Staff - Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine - Viktor Muzhenko in an interview to "Ukrinform".

After the submission to the Cabinet of Ministers, the document will be passed to the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine and the Presidential Administration of Ukraine.

The program includes activities for "the planned acquisition of the Armed Forces capabilities to effectively respond to the threats to national security in the military sphere," and the transition to NATO standards.

"It is clear that NATO membership is a political issue. But we see our task in solving practical problems in the training of troops, in the adaptation of the ways and methods application to the rules and regulations that exist in NATO countries. The main aim of these efforts is the achievement of full interoperability of Ukrainian units and subunits with the Alliance forces. This is an absolutely realistic prospect," Muzhenko says.
