Court of Appeal upheld detention of Naftogaz ex-deputy chairman until January 17
Katsuba only reviewed half of the case
Kyiv Court of Appeal upheld the detention of former deputy head of "Naftogaz Ukraine" Oleksandr Katsuba, the son of the people’s deputy from the "Revival" party Volodymyr Katsuba until January 17. This was reported to "Ukrainian News" by defense lawyer Yuriy Ivashchenko.
"Today, the court rejected our appeal and left the preventive punishment in the form of detention of Katsuba till January 17", - he said.
The lawyer also noted that the defenders of ex-deputy head of the "Naftogaz" have already acquainted with all 92 volumes of the case, and Katsuba himself has currently read only half of it.
Ivashchenko also confirmed the information from Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko, that the defense initiated an agreement with the investigation. At the same time, the procedure of discussing plea agreement has not yet begun, according to the lawyer.
Earlier, on June 17, 2016, investigators of the Prosecutor General’s Office apprehended, and on 18 June the court has arrested Oleksandr Katsuba for two months. Katsuba was arrested on suspicion of committing a criminal offense under Articles 255 (creation of a criminal organization) and 191 (misappropriation of property through abuse of office) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The investigation found out that Katsuba was involved in the appropriation of "Naftogaz" funds amounting to $ 17 million.
