Benin Embassy confirmed the seizure of the ship with Ukrainians and Russians on board in Africa, noting that it occurred outside the territorial waters of the country. This was announced by the Ambassador of Benin in Russia Gabriel Anicet Kochofa, "TASS" reports.

"The ship was captured by pirates indeed, but outside the territorial waters of Benin. The citizens of Ukraine and Russia are indeed on this ship. According to various estimates, there may be up to four Russians on board,” the ambassador said.

It should be noted, that the MFA consular service of Ukraine reported 112.ua agency that as of 5 p.m. they do not possess any information on the presence of Ukrainian citizens on board.

It was reported earlier by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation that a vessel near Benin was captured. Allegedly, Ukrainians  may be on board.
