Gianni Buquicchio, head of the Venice Commission, expressed hope that the Ukrainian MPs will show “political maturity and responsibility”, and that short-term political interests will not get in the way of development of the crucial reform. He said this in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

According to the official, the reform of the judiciary and the Prosecutor’s office is vital for Ukraine’s future. “Without it, Ukraine can’t become the state driven by the supremacy of law, the one that matches the model of European democracies. The reform is long awaited, and it’s being discussed for many years. Now, there’s no time left for discussion over details. If the changes are not submitted now, there’s no telling when the reform will be implemented”, Buquicchio said.
