A document is singed in the result of cooperation between the Head of Ukraine’s Parliament Andriy Parubiy, factions’ representatives and the representatives of the European Parliament. According to the document the next Ukrainian parliament convocation should have up to 20 committees and the debates will be introduced as a new form of parliament functioning. The Head of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy reported that during his briefing, broadcasted by 112 Ukraine TV channel.
“It is stated (in the document, - ed.) that the right way is to create a working group on parliamentary reform, I am the head of this group. It is also stated that the first steps I introduced are supported by our colleagues in the European Parliament. The bill on cutting parliamentary committees up to 20 in the next convocation of the Verkhovna Rada is among them. These committees shall correlate to the ministries and the Cabinet of Ministers, Parubiy said.
According to him, it is also planned to introduce another form of parliamentary work as debates.
“We also agreed with all the representatives of the factions that we are starting preparation on the level of the working group to introduce changes in the law on parliamentary committees and changes in parliamentary rules in order to provide improvement of the work of committees and their significance in the work of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. It is also recommended to improve the laws on introduction of debates into the work of the parliament," Andriy Parubiy added.
As it was reported earlier the joint briefing of the Head of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Parubiy and the coordinator of the program of the European Parliament on parliamentary institutional capacity enhancement Pat Cox. Elmar Brok, former head of the European Parliament committee on foreign affairs, also participated.
