Russia's permanent representative to the EU Vladimir Chizhov said that Ukraine may be forced to take transit gas from Russia to Europe due to insufficient reserves in the gas storage facilities. TASS agency reports this.
According to him, it can be fraught with a new crisis in relations between Moscow and the European Union.
"There is a calculation of how much gas should be pumped during the summer period in the gas storage. I'm not going to operate with detailed figures, but I know that now it is uploaded is much less than the required minimum. Accordingly, they will not be able to use the gas from underground storage facilities, as Ukraine did last winter, as the country doesn’t by the gas from November (2015 - Ed.)", said Chizhov.
At the same time, in his opinion, this problem can occur even if the winter is not too cold.
"The whole experience with Kyiv on gas matters suggests that the path of least resistance for them is to start again the receiving of gas from the transit pipeline, leading to Europe, and then there will be another crisis," suggested Russia's permanent representative to the EU.
According to him, the Commission, in particular the vice-president Maros Sefcovic, will pre-negotiate with Kyiv on this subject.
