The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the European Commission has welcomed the implementation of Ukraine action plan on liberalization of visa regime with the EU. It was announced by Deputy Foreign Minister for European Integration of Ukraine Olena Zerkal in Brussels, Ukrainski novyny.
‘We were told that we are well done and did a very good job. No one expected such results,’ - she said.
Although Deputy Minister informed that Ukraine still has to meet certain requirements.
There are questions in the Commission about how the process of electing the anti-corruption prosecutor should be provided .
"I want Ukrainians to travel to the EU without a visa as soon as possible. My main task is to make this process (of obtainment a visa-free regime with the EU) shorter in terms of time," - said Zerkal.
The Deputy Minister stressed that there are a lot of factors that contribute a positive report of the European Commission on Ukraine's implementation of the action plan on visa liberalization, December 15th.
"We have fulfilled most of the requirements. Of course, consider the fact that they do not have the final vision of what was accepted by Verkhovna Rada, they cannot finalize their reaction. There are 2 more weeks for us to ensure granting of these laws and to hold meetings for discussing the results of the European Commission’s analysis of these laws, "- said Zerkal.
She added that now Ukraine is on the stage of implementation technical criteria, following which member states of the EU will discuss this issue.
Only after discussion in the EU the legislative procedure will be able to start.
"All this time we will have to demonstrate progress", - said the Deputy Minister.
It was reported, that earlier the Head of the parliament Volodymyr Groisman said that the EU has no comments yet on the ‘visa-free package’.
Later, the Ambassadors of the European Union Jan Tombinski said that the EU will be able to express its position on the package of legislations about visa liberalization, adopted by Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, only on finishing of its evaluation, which is now in process. Presumably, the EU will make its verdict on December 15th.
It should be reminded that, the Verkhovna Rada adopted all the legislations in field of the liberalization of the visa regime between Ukraine and the European Union, namely: limited the powers of the SSU (The Security Service of Ukraine) in investigation of crimes against national security, clarified the procedure of special confiscation and created the National Agency for the identification, tracing and management of criminal assets. President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko in his speech on the occasion of the Day of Dignity and Freedom said that he has signed a package of ‘visa-free laws’.
