Illegal annexation of Crimea and aggression in Donbas speak of the Russia’s provincialism. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said that during Kyiv Security Forum, broadcasted by 112 Ukraine TV channel.
“Russia is searching for the future in their imperial past, where they had no freedom, no human dignity, no rule of law, when people were repressed and expansionism existed. This is what they practiced earlier; this is what they are practicing now. Illegal annexation of the Crimean peninsula and aggression in Donbas speak of Russia’s provincialism aimed at basic principles of order, stability and well being. Modern Ukraine is basing itself upon the powerful civil society. Russia is suppressing this civil society,” Poroshenko said.
Petro Poroshenko believes that Russia wants to place Ukraine into the world of Strugatsky brothers.
“Ukraine has taken the way of democracy, which became a threat for Moscow, but youth went out to the streets there, because the human will can’t be moved beyond. Russia wants to place us into the world of Strugatsky brothers in their famous novel… This world where oligarchs rule the world, they are only interested in having power and getting power. This power is based on repression,” the President added.
According to the President the key task of Russia is to destabilize Ukraine.
"Russia strengthens repression in the Crimea in order to make dissidents keep silent. Moscow wants to set Poland against Ukraine. This began of treasons and acts of vandalism,” explained the head of the state.
