The words of German ambassador Ernst Reichel about holding the local elections in Donbas were supposedly the personal point of view of the diplomat, and that was most likely not agreed with the German government. Volodymyr Ohryzko, former foreign minister of Ukraine, said that in the commentary for 112 Ukraine TV channel.
‘What is now the topic of discussion means that the Ambassador went a bit too far. I don’t think this statement was coordinated with Berlin, so this scandal will not really improve our relations with Germany,’ Ohryzko said.
He added it is not usual that the ambassador expressed his personal views, all the more different from the official position of his country’s government. ‘I guess he mistook the wish for the reality. I don’t even think it’s the official stance of the German side,’ the ex-minister said.
