For the first time since 2006 Germany updated the so-called "White Book" defense doctrine of the Bundeswehr, which regulates German security policy, writes Die Welt.
According to the new wording, Russia is not a partner of Germany but a rival. Particularly is noted that with the aggression in eastern Ukraine and the annexation of the Crimea Russia casts doubt on the established post-Cold War European order. This had far-reaching implications for the security of Germany, said in a statement. The new version of the document will reflect the fact that Russia emphasizes the strategic rivalry, increasing military activity in the EU's external borders.
