Ukrainian Gymnastics Federation published a press release with a claim that it doesn’t skip Russian stages of the International Grand Prix to boycott Russia.
“2016 Grand Prix Stage, which is going to take place at the end of February in Moscow doesn’t fit into the individual training plan of Ukrainian gymnasts. Competition frequency doesn’t allow Ukrainian gymnastics team to take part in all competitions. Choosing competitions, the coaching staff, always gives preference to stages of the World Cup over stages of the Grand Prix, held by the Grand Prix Organizational Committee.
The fact that Ukrainian gymnasts are not taking part in the competition is not a boycott and doesn’t have political reasons. Previously Ukrainian team participated in the competition in 2014, since they were preliminary rounds of the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China,” – says the report.
