UEFA Europa League: Semifinals up ahead

The four remaining teams are Manchester United, Celta, Ajax and Lyon

The return leg matches in the quarterfinal fixtures of UEFA Europa League were played this week. Manchester United defeated Anderlecht in the overtime (2-1); Celta Vigo tied a draw with KRC Genk (1-1), which let the Spaniards proceed in the competition.

Ajax lost to Schalke 04 (3-2), but eventually made it to the semifinals, leading 4-3 on aggregate. Lyon and Besiktas pulled up an overtime; Turks actually won 2-1, but it meant a tie on the aggregate, so after the full time, the teams went for a penalty shootout. The French got luckier, winning 6-7 on penalties.

The draw ceremony took place on Friday, April 21; according to the results, Manchester United will face Celta, while Ajax is to cross swords with Lyon. The first legs will be taking place on May 4, and the return legs on May 11. Stockholm is to host the final game on May 24.
