Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina became the first representative of Ukraine, who reached the 1/8 finals of the Wimbledon tournament.
The rival of Ukrainian athlete was German tennis player Carina Witthöft. In the first set, Svitolina simply defeated the opponent, winning 6-1. And in the second game her victory was not so easy, 7-5.
"I'm very, very proud of myself because, you know, just a few weeks ago, I was worried about the Achilles injury, and now I'm in the fourth round of Wimbledon. I feel pretty confident. By today's performance, you could see that I play well and enjoy the game. It's very important for me to be here and show good tennis. In the first set I performed just amazing today, most likely because of Midas's hand. The second set went well, because tennis is a long game, and ьatches can be long, everything can change. It's normal that rival had the opportunity to make a comeback. In the 1/8 finals everything will be different. I'll be ready for the match against Ostapenko and will do my best to win," said Elina Svitolina said after the match.
In 1/8 finals Svitolina will play with the champion of Roland Garros 2017 Elena Ostapenko.
