Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro hosted the closing ceremony of the 31st Summer Olympics in Rio. One of the most awaited sport events in the world lasted in Brazil from August 5 through 21.

The rain didn’t get in the way of the ceremony – the fans and the very athletes shone with joy and happiness.

The participants apparently liked the idea of nations’ parade where they could mix with representatives of other nations and didn’t have to march in their respective columns.

Ukrainian fencer Olga Kharlan, the holder of bronze and silver awards, carried the national flag during the closing ceremony. Throughout the competition, Ukraine claimed eleven awards, two of them gold, five silver and four bronze.

The ceremony also included solemn passing of the Olympic flag from Rio to Tokyo. Mayor of the Japanese capital took the flag from the hands of his colleague in Rio. As is known, Tokyo is to host the next Summer Olympics in 2020.
