Ukrainian Serhiy Torchynsky won the first medal in the sports competitions Invictus Games in Canada. This was reported by Interior Minister Arsen Avakov on his Facebook page.

"The first medal at Invictus Games2017 was won by injured in the battles patrol policeman from Lutsk, Serhiy Torchynsky! Well done - in the course of the competition he dramatically improved his personal record and bypassed many favorites! We are proud," Avakov wrote.   

Avakov noted that in August 2014 Serhiy took part in some of the fiercest battles when Donbas conflict started - the defense of Savur-Mohyla. Then he received a fragmentation wound in the neck. After rehabilitation he works as an inspector in the patrol police of Lutsk.

"To participate in the Unbowed Games he began to train as soon as he learned about the beginning of the selection. He chose sporting shot put and powerlifting, and dreams that after the Games in Toronto, not only in his native country, but also all over the world people will be proud of Ukrainian soldiers, "the Interior Minister wrote.
