EURO 2016: Ukraine summons its players from Russian championship

Footballers proved their worth during practice sessions, and sending them back makes no sense, says head coach

“The coaching staff was not initially ready to call these guys in. At first, we summoned players from Russian clubs and assessed their performance during practice sessions. Then, we analyzed the information we’d got and agreed that we needed to call in more candidates for the national team. And then, we realized we were right. Did it make any sense sending the good ones home, and taking the weak ones instead? We made this decision, having abstained from any emotions on this matter. Emotions are quite different thing, and they don’t belong here when it comes to making the decision that severs the team’s interests best”, Mykhailo Fomenko, Ukraine’s head coach said.
