Vasyl Lomachenko was named the best boxer in 2016 according to the popular American portal Boxing News 24. The main merit of the athlete, according to experts the portal, is winning the WBO super champion in featherweight Roman Martinez.

"Another great victory for Ukrainian was a win against Nicholas Walters. Some fans said that Walters did not box the whole year before this fight. Yes, it's true. But the way Lomachenko dominated in the ring, it became clear that he would beat the opponent, no matter how much fights he would have spent in the past year. Vasyl proved that he is a much better fighter," portal explained its choice.

Earlier in June Lomachenko debuted in his new weight class - second featherweight (up to 59 kg) - and set the record for the speed of world title conquest in two divisions. In the middle of the fifth round he knocked the Puerto Rican Roman "Rocky" Martinez. And in November Lomachenko successfully defended his championship title, defeating the representative of Jamaica Nicholas Walters.

28-year-old Ukrainian boxer Vasyl Lomachenko, who is the WBO world champion in  second featherweight title (up to 59 kg), will hold a rematch with the 36-year-old Orlando Salido in the spring of 2017.
