Ukrainian writer Yuriy Andrukhovych on August 28 was awarded the Goethe Medal, reports DW. The award ceremony was held in the city of Weimar.

The current award was dedicated to the theme "cultural migration - migration culture", which is especially important for Germany against the background of a large number of refugees and migrants, particularly from Syria, where a civil war is continuing.

Introducing the winners, the Goethe-Institut President Klaus-Dieter Lehmann called them "outstanding personalities and tireless intercultural mediators".
