Ukrainian alpinist dies during summit ascent on Elbrus

A 54-year-old alpinist, the citizen of Odesa, southern Ukraine, perished while ascending onto the top of Elbrus. The press service of the main department of Russia’s Emergencies Ministry in Karachai-Cherkess Republic (Russia) said this on June 2.  The rescue team recovered his body. According to the governmental agency’s press service, the rescuers received the message stating his health conditions deteriorated rapidly, but due to nil visibility caused by snowfalls and thick fog, the rescuers’ Mi-8 helicopter couldn’t reach the team of alpinists in the mountains.

Previoiusly, another Ukrainian alpinist fell down from Mount Elbrus. He survived the accident.
