Turkish police detained nearly 50 people on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts

The Turkish police conducted an operation in seven districts of Istanbul, during which 49 people were detained on suspicion of planning terrorist attacks during the referendum on the constitutional amendment in the country, the Anadolu agency reported.

The police believe that the detainees may be linked to the Islamic State terrorist group.

The agency also reports that the detainees could have connections with the organizers of shooting at a nightclub in Istanbul on New Year's Eve. Only eight people are citizens of Turkey, the rest are foreigners among the detainees.

Earlier a shootout took place during the referendum in the Turkish province of Diyarbakir. As a result two people were killed.
