Today, on July 17, 2017, the international society remembers the victims of MH17 plane crash.

The tragic incident took place in the skies over the militant-occupied area of Donbas, eastern Ukraine; the civilian aircraft, Boeing 777 of Malaysian Airlines was on its way from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur when an anti-aircraft missile hit the plane, killing everyone aboard. 298 people – passengers and crew members – lost their lives in the explosion.

The Dutch investigation group found out that the missile was launched from Russian-made Buk, the anti-aircraft defense weapon employed by the Russia-sponsored mercenaries. The missile launcher was brought to the occupied area of Donetsk region from Russia; it crossed the militant-held section of Ukraine-Russia border. The experts found out that the missile was launched not far from the occupied Snizhne, Donetsk region.

In July 2015, Malaysia proposed that the UN Security Council set up an international tribunal to prosecute those deemed responsible for the downing of the plane. The Malaysian resolution gained a majority on the Security Council, but was vetoed by Russia.

The Ukrainian government insists the Russian military are behind the tragedy; the Kremlin denies any involvement in the particular incident, saying there were no Russian troops in that area.
