President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has joined the New Year's marathon in support of Ukrainian political prisoners in the Russian Federation and the occupied Crimea - he sent congratulatory letters to fellow citizens. This was reported by the organizers of EvromaydanSOS, Radio Liberty.

"Today, when you are cut off from family and friends, I would like you to enter the New Year with a strong faith in the power of unity that knows no boundaries and barriers. I am morally with you, side by side. The whole country is with you", wrote Poroshenko.

EvromaydanSOS holds the marathon to support Ukrainian political prisoners.

According to activists, the official letters are sent by the Embassy of Ukraine in Russia.

Human rights activists reported that there are 36 political prisoners from Ukraine to Russia, and another 10 cases may also be recognized as politically motivated. Russian law enforcement system has accused these people of spying, separatism, terrorism, extremism and subversive activities.
