On November 13 and 14, search and rescue teams of the State Emergency Service saved 228 people from snow banks in Khmelnytsky region. The mean two-monthly precipitation took place only in these 24 hours, the governmental agency said.
One and a half meter-high snow drifts were reported at some roadways in the region; 237 vehicles – cars, trailers and buses, - were dragged out of the snow. About 600 people were in these vehicles. 228, 97 of those children, were rescued directly from inside the snow drifts, the Service reported.
The passenger bus connection in the region has been partially restored, after the main roadways were cleared from the snow. School classes in several districts of the region were cancelled due to the heavy snowfalls and restricted traffic.
