The rally International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women will take place at the Independence Square in Kyiv. The correspondent of the 112 Ukraine TV Channel reports this.

"The event for the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women will be held today at the Independence Square roughly at 16:00 pm Kyiv time. The rays will appear under orange umbrellas to illuminate the stele on the Maidan", the correspondent said.

According to Deputy Minister of Social Policy Natalya Fedorovych, violence against women in Ukraine is a serious problem, so the protesters want to draw attention to it.

"Every year 100-150 thousand men are turned to the police due to accusations of domestic violence. Analysis of the situation shows that it is only 1/3 of the people who seek help because of violence. This is a serious problem. We want to talk about this issue, we want to draw attention to it, and we want to say that those who are subjected to violence should not be silent, should seek help. We will do everything possible to build a high-quality system of combating domestic violence", she said.

At the same Fedorovych added that today the Verkhovna Rada voted for the Bill on the prevention of domestic violence. This document proposed a comprehensive approach to combating violence and providing help. The corresponding bill was introduced after a flashmob @_NotAfraidToSay, during which participants shared their own stories of sexual violence and gender-based humiliation.
