The renowned artist Johnny Depp joined the worldwide protest action called ‘Voice Project’, in which he decided to support Ukrainian moviemaker and political prisoner Oleg Sentsov. As is known, Sentsov, the well-known Ukrainian activist, currently serves time in Russia under the trumped-up charges with alleged preparation for terrorist acts in Russian-occupied Crimea.
Voice Project representatives said they aim to ‘protect each other regardless of the distance or borders’, which is why they turned to ‘those heard by the rest of the world’.
Johnny Depp supported the action, having posed for the image, which features the date of Sentsov's detention, his current location and the duration of his prison term. The image is now printed on clothes - T-shirts, jackets, etc. Some of his colleagues – British muisician Peter Gabriel, Russian activist Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Grammy holder Tom Morello, – supported the action and other political prisoners, too.
The clothes can be purchased via the Internet. The money will go to help political prisoners worldwide.
That’s not the first tiome the international community has been expressing solidarity and support towards Oleg Sentsov. For one, support actions took place at this year’s Berlinale.
