The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the bloody terrorist attack in Istanbul. The New York Times quoted the statement of the militants released on January 2.

‘The attack had been carried out in continuation of the blessed operations that the Islamic State is conducting against Turkey, the protector of the cross ( …) The government of Turkey should know that the blood of Muslims, which it is targeting with its planes and its guns, will cause a fire in its home by God’s will,’ reads the statement.

As 112 International reported, a man armed with rapid-fire rifle shot dead 39 and wounded another 69 people at a New Year party in Istanbul. The deceased people were identified; many of them were foreigners. No Ukrainians suffered during the tragedy.

The Turkish police continue to search for the criminal; they suspect that the assassin could be an Uzbek or Kyrgyz national.
