The Iraqi army has ejected "Islamic state" militia from the strategically important area of Mosul, the battle for which resumed with renewed vigor on the New Year’s Eve. It was reported by the BBC.

As it was reported, elite troops captured al-Muthana following night-time fighting, an army spokesman said, putting them in a position to take higher ground nearby.

Yesterday it became known that the Iraqi military liberated more than half of the east of Mosul from ISIS militia.

It should be noted that on December 29 the Iraqi special forces launched a new offensive against ISIS positions in a number of south-eastern regions of Mosul.
