Five thousand servicemen of the national police maintain public order in the Ukrainian capital today, as the citizens celebrate the 25th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence. Ten metal detectors were set at Maidan Nezalezhnosti square and Khreshchatyk street. Pyrotechnicians and police dogs checked the downtown for traces of explosives or other sort of dangerous items.

Andriy Kryshchenko, the chief of Kyiv police, told this 112 Ukraine TV channel in a commentary.
