On January 19, Ukrainians all across the country celebrated the Epiphany, an old Christian feast. It celebrates the revelation of God in his Son as human in Jesus Christ.
Eastern Christians commemorate the baptism of Jesus in the Jordan River, seen as his manifestation to the world as the Son of God. Churchmen consecrate water in lakes and rivers, and people swim in ice-holes.
A photo gallery below shows people of various regions, origins, jobs and hobbies united to purify their souls with holy water – amidst truly freezing temperatures.
