The case of two deserters Maksim Odintsov and Alexander Baranov detained on the administrative border with annexed Crimea can be reclassified. The head of the SBU Vasyl Hrytsak said this during the briefing, which was broadcast by 112 Ukraine TV Channel.
"Detained deserters transferred to the military prosecutor's office. Mykolaiv Court charged them with the preventive measure in the form of detention. Unfortunately, according to our data, there is the possibility of releasing them on bail, which makes me annoyed, but we will fight. Their actions will be qualified by our investigators of military prosecutor’s office. Maybe the case will be even reclassified, and I look forward to the prospect of court", said Hrytsak.
As it was reported earlier, Russian Defense Ministry accused Ukrainian special services of allegedly illegal detention of the two servicemen and carrying them out of the territory of the Crimea. The Defense Ministry of Russia called that a “gross provocation” and demanded to return them immediately. They also claim that Ukrainian side is trying to fabricate criminal cases against Maxim Odintsov and Aleksandr Barabanov for crimes against Ukraine.
The Security Service of Ukraine confirmed the fact of the detention but these are the Ukrainian diversionists who switched to the Russian Army after the annexation. Kyiv also claims that Russian servicemen crossed the border at Chongar checkpoint.
The Security Service of Ukraine is investigating the desertion and treason cases.
