Bringing MH17 perpetrators to justice remains Dutch government’s top priority

Dutch Foreign ministry expressed their full confidence in the Joint Investigation Team that is conducting it

Bringing the perpetrators on MH17 tragedy to justice is – and will remain – the Dutch government’s top priority. Bert Koenders, Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs, said that in his statement published on the official website of the Government of Netherlands.

“The criminal investigation into the circumstances of the attack on MH17 is still ongoing and I would like to express my full confidence in the Joint Investigation Team that is conducting it. It has now been decided that the suspected perpetrators will be tried in the Netherlands, and the prosecution can count on close and continuing international backing and cooperation. There is broad international support for bringing the perpetrators to justice. This is – and will remain – the Dutch government’s top priority,” reads the message.

The tragic incident took place in the skies over the militant-occupied area of Donbas, eastern Ukraine; the civilian aircraft, Boeing 777 of Malaysian Airlines was on its way from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur when an anti-aircraft missile hit the plane, killing everyone aboard. 298 people – passengers and crew members – lost their lives in the explosion.

The Dutch investigation group found out that the missile was launched from Russian-made Buk, the anti-aircraft defense weapon employed by the Russia-sponsored mercenaries. The missile launcher was brought to the occupied area of Donetsk region from Russia; it crossed the militant-held section of Ukraine-Russia border. The experts found out that the missile was launched not far from the occupied Snizhne, Donetsk region.
