Ukrainian artists have recorded the song, devoted to the government troops that are now fighting pro-Russian militants in the occupied Donbas. The song, which was originally written by Ukrainian serviceman Zynoviy Medyukh, is called ‘Christmas Prayer’.

President Petro Poroshenko posted the video at Facebook. ‘In the name of the Christmas Eve, let’s pay tribute to our troops. Thanks to them and their deeds, we’ve got this opportunity to celebrate Christmas in peace and warmth,’ he wrote.

On January 6, Ukrainians and other Christians of the Eastern Rite celebrate the Christmas Eve; on January 7, they mark Christmas, respectively.
