Archeologists dig up antique architectural structure in Mykolaiv

Archeologists dig up an architectural structure of antique times in Mykolaiv, reported Oleksandr Smirnov, the Head of archeological expedition. The construction dates back to 4 – 5 centuries B.C.

“Lately we found an architectural structure of antique period on the territory of Mykolaiv. It was a multilayer archeological object with a living area at the bottom. The dimensions are approximately  5m x 5m. The floor was covered with remains of grass and reed. We also examined long-pillar holes for roof support. According to preliminary data the object dates back to 4 – 5 centuries B.C.” – Smirnov said.

According to Snirnov, archeological research was conducted there in 2013 for the expense of the city budget. During diggings the settlement of antique epoch was explored. It was constantly exposed to burglarious diggings.

The research was resumed in October 2015. Archeologists discovered a lot of ancient ceramics. After classifying it the researchers announced complete dominance of antique tableware

Smirnov also says that further work will give archeologists and scientists the opportunity to reconstruct ancient history of the native land.
