45th Kyiv International Film Festival Molodist has began
Starting from 1970's, Molodist gained international recognition and remained country's most outstanding event in the field of film industry
October 24 started one of the most anticipated festivals in Ukraine. This year's Molodist held in Kyiv for the forty fifth time. This is the only film festival in Ukraine, accredited by International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF).
The opening ceremony was held October 24 at the Ivan Franko National Academic Drama Theater. Many of Ukrainian as well as international honorable guests were walking down the red carpet, Telekritika reported.
The French Ambassador to Ukraine Ms. Isabelle Dumont presented the general director of Molodist Andrii Khalpakhchi with a French State Award. Khalpakhchi also became the recipient of the Order of Arts and Literature, as reported by festival’s press service.
Also, Maryna Poroshenko, the wife of Ukrainian President, take part at the festival's opening ceremony. She was presenting Molodist for kids - part of the film festival programme where movies for children are contested. For the viewing were also invited almost 100 children of Ukrainian military servicemen who take part in the Anti-Terrorist Operation on the East of Ukraine, time-ua reported.
In addition, the imprisoned director Oleg Sentsov was also mentioned during the ceremony. Festival organizers promised that each screening of the festival will be preceded by one of 38 video clips in support of Sentsov, raising awareness about his imprisonment.
Molodist is one of the greatest specialized cinema events in Ukraine and Eastern Europe, according to the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF).
Film Festival was established in 1970 as a two-day viewing of students’ short films of the Kiev State Theatrical Art Institute. Since then, local initiative gained international popularity: since the 1980s Ukrainians have seen the works of directors-debutants from Bulgaria, Georgia, Armenia and Russia, the times of perestroika had been the era of filmmakers from the Baltic States, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Germany.
